One person is dead and four others were injured Thursday after a single vehicle rollover near Levan in Juab County.

Utah Highway Patrol authorities reported that the accident occurred on State Road 28 around 3:30 p.m, about seven miles south of Levan.Amanda Higgins, 29, of Spanish Fork, was killed in the accident.

UHP officials report a Ford Excursion, driven by 37-year-old Amy Bott, of Provo, was traveling north on SR-28 behind a Western Star semitruck that was pulling two trailers. Bott attempted to pass the semi by moving into the oncoming southbound lane. Officials say that once the Excursion was in the southbound lane, the driver saw a semitruck driving towards them in the southbound lane.

Bott swerved to the left and off the roadway, according to UHP, and once the southbound semitruck passed, she overcorrected to the right and came back onto the roadway, striking the northbound semitruck. The Excursion then rolled twice, ejecting Bott and Higgins. Bott was thrown into the roadway, but Higgins was crushed by the vehicle.

Neither Bott nor Higgins were wearing a seat belt. Bott was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Three other women were in the Excursion at the time of the accident. Orem resident Amanda Worthington, 23, was in critical condition, 22-year-old McKenzie Johnston, from Pleasant Grove, had minor injuries, and Salem resident Alexandria Mofitt, 21, also had minor injuries. The driver of the semitruck was uninjured.
